Whether you are looking to complete your first ultra distance event, or are a veteran of the sport, the Summer Beast of Burden is a true test of your endurance! The Summer Beast offers a flat and fast run along the Erie Canal Tow Path.However, there is one little twist - you have to beat the bridge! The Erie Canal attracts thousands of tourists to Lockport, New York every summer for its historic canal boat cruises, which pass under operational lift bridges along the way. You'll be crossing two of these historic bridges on each out-and-back loop. When a boat approaches an upcoming lift bridge, you have two choices: sprint ahead to beat the boat before the bridge is raised, or just relax and soak in the view while the boat passes on its merry way.You simply will not find a more runner-friendly course anywhere on the planet. You'll find a lush green, tree-lined path along the waters of the historic Erie Canal.So, do you think you've got what it takes? Guess you have to run and see!

What's included
Runners will start at Wide Water’s Marina and run along a paved trail for approximately 1 mile before crossing the canal on one of Lockport's historic draw bridges and then run along the historic Erie Canal Towpath. Athletes will run approximately 11.5 miles to the Village of Middleport before returning to the start area. This out and back course will be twice to complete the 50 miles.
The historic Erie Canal offers scenic views along the course, alongside the lush, green vegetation.
Drop bags will be brought to the turn-around only.
Aid stations have volunteers and the ultra food you will need to fuel your run, including Heed, Water, Coffee, Coke, gels, grilled cheese sandwiches, chicken broth, fresh pizza, pancakes, and donuts. There are three aid stations along the course.
Due to risks involved with runners are required to have completed at least one official 50-mile race. (This will be cross checked with Ultra SignUp's extensive database).All racers must be willing to submit to a drug urine test before, during, or after the race. If any USOC banned substances are detected, the racer will be disqualified from competition and listed as DISQUALIFIED in the final standings of the race.
Finishers will receive a Beast of Burden 100 Mile Finisher's Buckle.
Racers must make their presence known at all Time Stations located in fixed locations along the route. It is your responsibility to cross all timing mats.
