Overview
The beyond Orienteering event is one that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point.You will need to move at speed (except in the family event) in a mix of unusual and possibly unfamiliar terrain. Participants will be given a topographical map, a specially prepared orienteering map, which you will use to find control points, at each control point you should punch you control card to show you have visited that point.

What's included
ShortThe short course is a mix of stunning Dorset wide open countryside, woodland,paths and some urban areas, of course there are a few hills to slow you down you will need to study your map before the start and plan what you believe will be the fastest route to visit the most control points, Its set over an approx distance of 16 km squared and will be run to the following rules. There will be 15 control points over the complete course and a strict time limit of TWO HOURS, you must be back at the finish by 12.15 or sooner if you complete the course. Each control point has a value of one (1) point added to it, visit all the controls for 15 points (max) and return in the fastest time, when you plan your route, you need to think about route+points+time to finish. The person or persons with the highest points, who returns in the fastest time will be declared the winner. (On count-back), over two hours incurs a 5 minute time penalty per minute overLong The long course is a mix of stunning Dorset wide open countryside, woodland,paths and some urban areas, of course there are a few hills to slow you down you will need to study your map before the start and plan what you believe will be the fastest route to secure the most points, Its set over an approx distance of 21 km squared and will be run to the following rules. There will be 15 control points over the complete course and a strict time limit of TWO HOURS, you must be back at the finish by 12.00 or sooner if you complete the course. Each control point has a value (points) added to it, the further out controls will have a higher point value, so when you plan your route, you need to think about route+points+time to finish. The 15 control points will be, nine control points worth 1 point each and a further six control points of different colors : yellow (2 points), green (3), brown (4), blue (5), pink (6), black (7). The person or persons with the highest points, who returns in the fastest time will be declared the winner.(On count-back).FamilyThe family course is a mix of stunning Dorset wide open countryside, woodland,paths and some urban areas, of course there are a few hills(only small ones) to slow you down you will need to study your map before the start and plan what you believe will be the fastest route to visit the most control points, Its set over an approx distance of 10 km squared and will be run to the following rules. There will be 10 control points over the complete course and a strict time limit of THREE HOURS, you must be back at the finish by 13.30 or sooner if you complete the course. Each control point has a value of one (1) point added to it, visit all the controls for 10 points (max) and return in the fastest time, when you plan your route, you need to think about route+points+time to finish. The person or persons with the highest points, who returns in the fastest time will be declared the winner.(On count-back), over THREE hours incurs a 5 minute time penalty per minute over

The event is located next to Miles Cross Farm, Symondsbury, Bridport, Dorset DT6 6HD, just 2km from the A35 with direct links to Exeter (44m) and Taunton (35m) From the East follow the M3 and M27, journey times from the M25 are in the region of 2 – 2.5 hours. From the West follow the M5 and then the A30 onto the A35, Journey times from Exeter are about 1 Hour. From the North follow the M5 till Taunton and then the A358 to chard, From Taunton it's approximately an hour.ParkingParking available at Miles Cross Farm, Symondsbury, Bridport, Dorset, DT6 6HD (100 meters from Registration)
We always welcome volunteers at our events so if you fancy joining the team for the day or even a few hours at registration or with parking, please get in touch. You will be rewarded for your efforts and will be able to choose an event to enter for free, thats any event and any distance. Family course informationThe beyond family orienteering event is one that requires limited navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point. (Limited knowledge)You will need to move at an average pace in a mix of unfamiliar terrain. Participants will be given a topographical map, a specially prepared orienteering map which you will use to find control points, you are also given a control card, you use this card to stamp at each of the control points, for the family event this will be a lot more detailed and the route will be quite easy to follow, its designed to be a more leisurely event and is one to spend with your children outside having new experiences, you can walk the course if you wish.For your entry fee you will receive one map and one control card, you can bring along more children if you wish at no additionally charge, extra control cars are charged at £2.00 per card.
