Mattawa River Canoe Race

Overview
The Mattawa River Race starts on Trout Lake in North Bay and continues down the Mattawa valley, ending at the town of Mattawa on the Ottawa River. The course features long lake crossings, multiple portages, dams and rapids as well as twisting river section so a close inspection is required prior to the race.
Course details
The race is pit-crew supported but with long unsupported sections, so safety is a key issue. This event requires training and careful preparation of food, fluids and equipment. The organizers recommend pre-running parts of the course. There are many portages and some class 1-2 white-water. The long race is suitable for intermediate to experienced paddlers.
What's included
There is a shorter 13K race suitable for family and all skill levels. The race coincides with the Mattawa Lumber Jack Festival so there is a lot to see and do at the finish line. There is a tremendous sense of history as you portage over the same trails worn into the rocks by countless generations of First Nations people over thousands of years. Advance registration is necessary for the 64 km race. Deadline is July 15.
