The inaugural Bridport triathlon is a pool based Triathlon aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, the shorter distance option makes this event perfect for someone thats taking part in their first event or if you have entered triathlons before and are looking to improve on your sprint distance ability.This is the first year for the Bridport triathlon and we are running the event to encourage people to take on the challenge of this great sport.You can enter the event as an individual and complete all three disciplines over the Sprint or shorter distance Super sprint, or as a relay team with friends or colleagues.(One person to do each element, so 3 different people in total).And if you don't fancy swimming enter the Duathlon for an equally testing challenge.
Information for beginners (Super-sprint)(200m-19km-3km)This event is aimed at beginners and we expect most of the field will be taking on their first triathlon. All you need is a swimming costume or trunks, goggles (not compulsory), a bike (road or mountain bike as long as it is in roadworthy condition),a cycle helmet (compulsory) and a pair of trainers.So go on give it a tri ! You will be given full instructions before the event and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch, by email or social media.The individual triathlon (Sprint) (400m-25km-5km)This is open to anyone over the age of 15 (on 31/12/18). You must complete all three disciplines with no outside assistance. Your time will be taken from when you start the swim to when you finish the run (Chip timed).The Junior duathlonThis is open to anyone aged 14 and under (on 31/12/18). This will be all on the field next to the leisure centre and totally traffic free. It is all about taking part, if you need to rest, stop at any point during the event, you can, we just want the younger athletes to get around and take part whatever their ability. Full, understandable, instructions will be given on the day and the juniors will be in view for a lot of the event making it great for family members and spectators.
The centre has ample toilets, full changing facilities and showers. You will also be able to purchase refreshments at the event.If you win 1st, 2nd, places as well as your age group, you will receive one prize and the prize you forfeited goes to the next placed finisher in your age group.
Super sprint (Try a tri)The Super sprint distance race will consist of a 200 m pool swim, a 20 km bike, and just under 3 km run (2.92 km)200 metres in the swimming pool will consist of 8 lengths of the 25 metre pool.The bike section leaves the leisure centre and heads through skilling and out through Salway ash , we pass through Netherbury before heading back to bridport, with the countryside for company and Dorset's beautiful villages to cycle through, its not a testing a ride. The run is just under 3 km (2.92km) and will head up into Bridport before heading back to the leisure centre through the surrounding football pitches and parks.SprintThe Sprint Distance race will consist of a 400 m pool swim, a 25 km bike, and a 4.65 km run.The bike section leaves the leisure centre and heads out the area on a flat and fast course into some of Dorset's most beautiful and quiet villages. The route is an out and back, and is a quick bike leg, it has a few tests on the out portion but coming back is all down hill.The run is to west bay and 2.5 km back on a different route, there are a couple of spots where you run on the same bit twice, just near the start and end of the run.DuathlonThe Duathlon event will consist of just under a 3 km run, a 25 km bike, and a 4.65 km runThe duathlon will start just after the first wave of swimmers has started at 0800 and will consist ofRun- Your first run will leave the leisure centre and is a relatively simple loop around the parks adjacent to the Bridport football club, its a nice run that follows the river Brit and should be either traffic free or very light on a May Sunday morning.Bike- The bike section leaves the leisure centre and heads out the area on a flat and fast course into some of Dorset's most beautiful and quiet villages. The route is an out and back, and is a quick bike leg, it has a few tests on the out portion but coming back is all down hill, this course is fast and flying and again takes place on very traffic light roads.Run- Your second run will head from the leisure centre on a different route to the first run and is to West Bay along the footpaths at west bay we do a small loop and head back to Transition following the old railway line, its not concrete but nor is it a difficult surface to run on, there is a small incline as the path leads up to Bridport, but after this its pretty much all down hill to the finish.More informationThe transition area is located just outside the leisure centre pool doors, its 10 metres from the changing rooms, and we would ask that after you have racked your bike you park in the Football club car park, this will ensure enough space for the leisure centre to stay open during the event (Its free to park).
Registration will take place on the morning of the event, nothing will be sent in the post.REGISTRATION AND TRANSITION OPENS AT 0715Sign your name and collect your numbers, rack your bike and await your wave start time.REGISTRATION AND TRANSITION WILL CLOSE AT 0845No exceptions, if your late, you will not be able to compete.SAFETY BRIEF AT 0845-0900Its just the key points and wont take to long
From the East follow the M3 and M27, journey times from the M25 are in the region of 2 – 2.5 hours.From the West follow the M5 and then the A30 onto the A35, Journey times from Exeter are about 1 Hour.From the North follow the M5 till Taunton and then the A358 to chard, From Taunton is approx an hour.Parking opens at 06.00.
