Overview

St. Johnsbury Recreation, Kingdom Trails, the Caledonia Trail Collaborative, and The Village Sport Shop Trailside are pleased to announce "Dig to Ride" camp, a trail building and mountain bike camp for area youth entering grades 6-8 in the fall. Campers will learn about sustainable trail building while helping build a new community trail on the campus of NVRH as well as helping with a to-be-determined special project at Kingdom Trails. Of course, once we've done some work in the mornings, we will bus to Kingdom Trails where we will ride world-class single track! Info: Novice mountain bikers are welcome, however, participants should be in excellent physical health and WANT to be physically active all day, every day. ***Drop off and pick up will be at St. Johnsbury Academy on Brantview Drive each day. We will load the bus for our adventures at 8:30 AM and will return by 4 PM*** ***There will be a special bike drop off and bike inspection Monday night from 5-6 PM at a location TBD in East Burke (So you don't have to lug your bike back and forth every day) Pickup on Thursday will be at 4 PM in East Burke also*** Campers should bring a backpack with clothes for all weather, bug spray, sunscreen, snacks, and lunch each day as well as a Camelback style backpack to ride with. Also, be sure to bring a bathing suit and towel. There are some great local swimming holes we will visit. HELMETS REQUIRED. If you need to rent a bike, we will send you additional paperwork. Bikes will be provided by Village Sport Shop Trailside in East Burke and are 1x10 hardtail 27.5+ bikes.

What's included

The mission of the St. Johnsbury Recreation Department is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of the greater St. Johnsbury area through the management of a diverse array of high quality recreational programs that foster character, community, and inquiry. Our office is located in RecFit St. J at 49 Perkins Street. St. Johnsbury Academy manages the recreation department under a contract with the municipality. This unique relationship began in the fall of 2010. The Recreation Department is staffed by one full-time director and several paid program staff such as camp counselors and referees. An integral part of the department is the core of over 100 volunteers that pitch in each year and our community partners such as the St. Johnsbury School, Good Shepherd Catholic School, Union Baptist Church, Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, the Athenaeum, and Catamount Arts. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the Rotary Club for helping with camp scholarships, the Kiwanis Club for providing free access to swimming for the community, and NVRH for financial, advertising, and physical support to endeavors like RecFit, the Caledonia Trail Collaborative, and the annual bike safety fair. Without the time, talent, energy, and dedication of these individuals and institutions, we could not begin to offer what we do for the community each year. Call us at (802) 751-2304 to learn more.
