Overview

Welcome to the Glencoe Marathon!The off-road marathon is an epic trail run that ascends a total of 1,608 metres through the heart of Glencoe and into the foothills of Ben Nevis.The Glencoe Marathon, the first marathon to be run through this amazing landscape, links the great Glencoe with Glen Nevis. Taking in the Devil’s Staircase, a gruelling 500 metre climb over the eastern edge of the truly fearsome Aonach Eagach Ridge, runners will be rewarded at every turn with views of some of the most stunning and dramatic mountains in the Scottish Highlands.The Glencoe Marathon is gaining a fantastic reputation for being, without a doubt, the most scenic off road marathon in the UK. This part of the Highlands has stunning scenery, and a vast amount to see and explore, and what better way to explore it than by running a marathon?!

What's included

Start: Red Squirrel Car ParkTurn west on the paths following the A82 through the stunning Glencoe past Loch Achtriochtan and in between two legendary hill ranges – to your left the Aonach Eagach Ridge and to your right the Three Sisters and Ossians Cave. This section climbs 330m over 13km.On reaching Altnafeadh the route turns north and the incline steepens to climb The Devil’s Staircase up to a height of 548m followed by a descent back to sea level at Kinlochleven.The 326m climb out of Kinlochleven can come as a surprise! The route undulates around the south west of the Mamores Mountains until you descend east into Glen Nevis.The finish is at the Event Hub in Glen Nevis, under the shadow of the mighty Ben Nevis.

Car Parking is available at the finish ONLY. No parking is allowed at the start. This is for drop off only.

The weather in the Scottish Highlands can be severe and unpredictable. There are remote locations, so runners should ensure that they have the correct kit to ensure safety on the event route. The following equipment is compulsory and MUST be carried during the event. If you do not carry the equipment you are NOT covered by the event insurance: waterproof jacket with a hood, waterproof trousers, hat and gloves, spare warm layer, survival bag, Whistle Mobile phone, fully charged, in a waterproof case, emergency food, event number and timing chip, which runners will collect at registration and must be visible at all times.

We suggest all participants book accommodation in Fort William or near the finish area in Glen Nevis. You can then make use of the event bus to the get to the start locations. Alternatively marathon participants can stay at the The Red Squirrel Campsite, Glencoe. If you stay here you may need to book a bus back at the end of the event. You can book your bus ticket during the registration process.
