The Great Train Race isn't simply a race amongst fellow competitors - it's an exciting challenge competing against the steam locomotive, Puffing Billy!The race route takes runners through fern gullies and hills, along tarmac roads and multi-purpose trails competing against Australia's favourite steam engine from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park.The Great Train Race is organised by Puffing Billy Railway volunteers, with all proceeds and any additional donations directed to the Puffing Billy Menzies Creek Museum redevelopment project.
Is pre-qualifying time proof required?No, PDF or JPEG data is no longer required to be submitted at time of registration.To assist with starting the race safely and seeding everyone fairly, a current 10km time is required to be entered.Previous runners – feel free to edit the automated 10km split time from your previous GTR.Qualification standard remains at 10km time must be under 75 minutes. This can be based on a flat course or trail run.Can I transfer my entry to someone else?Under no circumstance are you permitted to pass your entry onto someone else.Entry fees and race bibs are non-transferable and that no other person is permitted to participate in the Event in place.We cannot process name changes, therefore if you cannot compete in the event, you must withdraw.How do I update personal information on my registration?Runners are welcome to update their details online at any point using their Person ID (found on your email or confirmation letters).Note: This is where runners can also purchase additional items after the initial registration process. eg: singlets or available parking passes or Race Train tickets.How many people can I have on a team?4 individual runners can run and compete as a team against teams and the Race Trains. Team prizes are available for the fastest 4 runners and the lucky random team prize.When will the Race Pack be sent?Entries received before April 1 will be posted to the address provided on your registration.Race Entries received from 18 April – 1 May will require collection.Race Bibs will be available on Race Day – Sunday 5 May.From 7:30am at Race Info, CFA building, Bayview Road, Belgrave.What is in my Race Pack?Your Race Pack will include:Race information sheetRace bib with attached timing chipSafety pinsYour pre-purchased items such as: train tickets, car park pass and/or singlets.When do I find out my seeded group?Upon receipt of the Race Pack, which should contain the Race Bib, you will note the seeded group colour and number.Further email correspondence from the Race Team will reference your seeded group.What are the prize categories for the Great Train Race?Following the Race at Emerald Lake Park, presentations will be made for the following categories:1st, 2nd 3rd Female1st, 2nd, 3rd MalePersonalized trophies and prizes will be mailed out post-race to:1st U/18 Female and Male1st Veteran Female and Male1st TeamDon’t forget to pop by the random prize tent to see if you have a lucky bib number! There are some great prizes up for grabs.Are there toilets along the route?Yes, they’re available at Menzies Creek Station, and Emerald Station, along with the Start and Finish line.Where are drink stations?Race Start: Belgrave CFA Station – Bayview Road, Belgrave4km: Outside 12 Selby Aura Road – 12 Selby-Aura Road, Selby7km: Menzies Creek CFA Station – Menzies Creek10.2km: Emerald Railyard – Puffing Billy Station, Emerald13.5km – Race Finish: Emerald Lake Park – Emerald Lake Road, EmeraldWhere is the best place to spectate?West side of Belgrave-Gembrook Rd from 8:45am to 9.45am (Start Line)Trestle Bridge carpark (1.5km)Menzies Creek Station (6km)Emerald Railyard (drinks stand) – this is the best one as there is ample parking available (10km)Emerald Lake Park (ELP) along the final 1km of the route and the finish line (12.5km-13.5km).ELP car park is open to pass holders only. Additional parking is available next to Emerald Library.Walking into ELP via Princess Ave is an option for the final 1-2km viewing spots.**Please note the road closure times when attempting to access these points.
