Lake Sonoma 50 is a 50-mile ultra marathon race held near Healdsburg, California. The course circumnavigates the Warm Springs arm of Lake Sonoma on hiking trails. It takes place annually on the second Saturday in April. The race was first run in 2008. In recent years it has become one of the most highly competitive ultra marathons in the United States.
Finisher's jacket, coolmax t-shirt, other cool swag.Finish line food will feature gourmet tamales (both chicken and veggie) by renowned chef Mateo Granados of Mateo’s Cocina Latina restaurant, and handcrafted wood-fired pizza by Firetrail Pizza. Thanks to the generosity of the Bear Republic Brewing Company, we will also be serving their award-winning Racer 5 IPA. Food and drink is available to all - runners, crews, families, friends and volunteers.
The race is held on the relentless trails at Lake Sonoma, about 10 miles northwest of Healdsburg, California. The course is an out-and-back circumnavigation of the Warm Springs Arm of Lake Sonoma. It is 86% single-track trail and 9% dirt fire roads, with the first 2.4 miles on pavement. The trail is relentlessly rolling with three significant climbs. There is about 10,500 feet of elevation gain and an equal amount of loss over the 50 miles. Trail quality is generally good; there are very few rocks and almost no roots. However, much of the trail is seldom used and so you can expect a lot of leaves and sticks on the trail. There are twelve creek crossings and it is likely that your feet will get wet in most – if not all – of them.
