Macedon Trail Race

Macedon Trail Run is the 2nd in the Trailsplus Mountain Trail Series. It offers incredibly beautiful scenic mountain trails with challenging ascents and descents. The start and finish are located at the BBQ area next to the carpark at the top of the mountain. This is an ideal place for families to enjoy a picnic lunch while waiting for their competitor to finish, and to hang around afterwards to encourage other finishers and for the presentations.The race will consist of a 10km, a 21.1km, a 30km a 42.2km and a 50km event. Mt Macedon Trail Runs consist of five events:10km short21.1km half marathon30km medium42.2km marathon50km longThe actual distance of the 50km event can vary be between 50km and 53km pending Parks Vic approvals on course condition each yearOn Course Support and AidThe event will have aid located at various points along the course.Aid Stations will have a supply of Water, Sports Drink, Fruit, Lollies etc.Aid Stations are planned to be at the following locations pending volunteer numbers.Please note the distances are approximate and may vary 1 - 2 km. Some locations are key junctions and will be utilised in preference to even spacings of aid stations.Finish line will have drinks and food available.The finish line is located at the Harbison picnic ground which is just adjacent to the "Top of the Range Tea Rooms", which will provide a warm shelter and great place to grab a snack and coffee. Just make sure your support crew are out to support you also ?Cut Off TimesTo ensure the safety of all participants we will be applying cut off times for the all events except 10km.The cutoffs will be applied at 4 locations throughout the course as these can be easily accessed by vehicle and we can easily return you to the finish area.Cutoffs are partially flexible but must fit within traffic management times. Compulsory ClothingOften referred to as MANDATORY GEAR. Please note that as Macedon is at a height of 1000m and technically is above the snow line in places, you may be required to carry a minimum amount of clothing. You will be advised in the final pre race news letter if this is likely. The 2011 event had a temperature of 1 degree with wind chill in the exposed areas of -5 degrees. You may be fine in these temperatures while running well, but if you are injured and can't move or have to walk slowly, you will very quickly become hyperthermic. It has also snowed the day after an event. Please ensure you have a suitable jacket, that if required you can start the event.
BBQ FacilitiesThere are great BBQ facilities at the finish line. Bring a long a snag and some bread and enjoy lunch after the race.Rules and RegulationsAll participants must obey the instructions of the race director, event representatives and Parks Victoria employees.SafetyAll events of this nature carry elements of risk, so it is the responsibility of all participants to conduct themselves in a safe manner and to help other participants if injured or in need of assistance. Conditions can vary quickly with the most likely problem being exposure to the weather. All participants should have suitable clothing as the conditions could be very cool.iPods other Music DevicesAll music devices are discouraged for competitor use while participating in this event.Under NO circumstances should music of any kind be audible at ANY level to another participant, runners will be asked to turn off the device or be DSQ from the event.The trails at Mt Macedon are very technical and surrounded by fantastic scenery. There are many single trail sections that require your senses to be at full alert. You cross a major road under traffic control and two minor roads on a few occasions. It is extremely important that you are fully alert to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all involved. On occasions branches can fall from trees. If you hear the break you can most likely avoid the falling branch, if you have music in your ears you most definitely won't. Please, for your safety, AVOID the use music devices.Please leave your iPods off the trail and enjoy real trail running and the camaraderie of those running with you and respect others who want to enjoy the surrounds and not your music.Please understand and respect the reasons for the restriction, it is for your safety.InjuredIf a participant is injured or becomes incapacitated, if it is safe to do so, other participants MUST assist them to the nearest check point.RubbishNo rubbish to be left on the course. Please place all items, no matter how small, in pockets for depositing in bins at check points. This is extremely important to ensure the ongoing support of Parks Victoria and the future of the race.InsuranceParticipants should note that public liability insurance exists for this event, however it does not cover individual medical or rescue costs. This cost is the responsibility of each individual competitor. Therefore, it is highly recommended that your ambulance cover is up to date.
