2020 interCaribbean Painkiller Cup SUP Team Race
18 January 2020
The interCaribbean Painkiller Cup Team race format comprises a 14-mile relay race starting in the shallow water at the top of Trellis Bay and finishing in front of Hendo’s Hideout in White Bay, Jost Van Dyke. The course is down through the narrow body of water between Great Caminoe and Beef Island, then through the Guana Island cut and down the North Shore of Tortola. The course is wide open as the paddlers cross from Tortola to Sandy Cay, which may be passed on either side, before running down the South side of Jost Van Dyke and turning in to White Bay.
The Painkiller Cup race starts in shallow water at the mouth of Trellis Bay. SUP racers must switch off their board on a predetermined rotation which is provided to the organizers at registration. The paddle time per racer is 25-minutes. There is no need to switch racers once your team has entered White Bay.
The new solo race starts in Brewers Bay on Tortola’s North Shore. The start is timed as the lead teams cross the mouth of the bay (probably around 11:00am). The course for the solo race is simple- Brewers Bay to White Bay, Jost Van Dyke, an approximate 7-mile downwind run. Solo race paddlers should plan to use leashes.
