The iconic Mooloolaba Triathlon returns on 9-11 March 2020 Located in the heart of the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival has been a feature event on the Australian Triathlon Calendar.Mooloolaba Triathlon stages a course that is famous for its ocean swim along with the electric buzz in the atmosphere as thousands of triathletes descend on this popular beach town. It's perfect for first timer and seasoned triathletes.There is something for the whole family including the Mooloolaba Twilight 5km Run, 1k Ocean Swim, Superkidz Triathlon and the Special Tri. The event also features the Mooloolaba ITU Triathlon World Cup, where participants will see some of the biggest names in triathlon swimming the same waters, cycling the same roads, and pounding the same pavement as their own course.

Mooloolaba Triathlon & Mooloolaba Teams Triathlon Swim - 1500m. One lap in the waters off Mooloolaba Beach The Mooloolaba Triathlon Swim leg is a beach start. Please allow 15 minutes to walk to the start located 800m South of Loo with a View’. Competitors are to keep the swim start area clear. Swim warm-up if required must take place off to the right of the swim course.Cycle - 40km. One lap undulating out and back course. It is a out and back course with one climb out to the motorway and then a very slick, fast, flat course. The course may be influenced by winds. It is 20km to turnaround point and return to transition. Take caution as you approach the transition area as it changes to single file..Run - 10km. Undulating 2 lap course along The Esplanade. The Run course is a two lap course in a clockwise direction. Keep moving in the same direction after racking your bike and use the run chute to exit transition.Mooloolaba Twilight 5km Run A fast, looped 5km run along Mooloolaba's beautiful Esplanade. This event is for runners of all abilities.Mooloolaba Ocean SwimJoin the stars of the pool and surf in the 1000m M-shaped ocean swim off Mooloolaba Beach.Mooloolaba Superkidz TriathlonThe kids only version of the Mooloolaba Triathlon for all children aged 7-13 years. All participants receive a participation medallion and an official ASICS Mooloolaba Superkidz Triathlon Singlet.Mooloolaba Special Triathlon The Mooloolaba Special Triathlon is the one of three only Triathlon specifically held for people with special needs. All participants receive a participation medallion.This triathlon showcases some of the most special moments of the weekend with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment.ITU Triathlon World Cup Swim: 750m1 Lap, triangle shaped course. Starting on the beach and swimming in a clockwise direction.Bike: 20km Click to view mapThe bike course is a 4 lap, 5km long course. The course is out and back in a clockwise direction along Mooloolaba Esplanade and Alexandra Parade. Gradual climb along Mooloolaba Esplanade from transition to Buderim Avenue intersection before descent onto Alexandra Parade. Sharp turn point at the corner of Maroubra Street before inbound journey along Alexandra Parade. Sharp technical dog leg turn before downhill descent onto Beach Terrace to transition. The "first runner, last rider" scenario is applicable for this event, in this case the rider will be taken off the course. Run: 5km Click to view mapThe run course is an undulating 3 lap course taking in stunning coastal views along the way. Out and back course ran in a clockwise direction along Mooloolaba Esplanade and Alexandra Parade. Gradual climb along Mooloolaba Esplanade from transition to Buderim Avenue intersection before short descent onto Alexandra Parade, turning just after Buderim Avenue intersection.

Race BriefingsRace briefings will be provided at the start of each of the events. All the information you require can be found in your Athlete Information Guide. Please ensure that you have downloaded and read this information. There will be a pre-race briefing at the swim start for all competitors before each wave start.Clydesdale & Athena Weigh InAll athletes competing in these categories will need to register at the help desk where you official race weight will be recorded. Clydesdale athletes will be weighed in and then allocated to the 90 - 99kg or 100kg + categories. If athletes do not weigh in then you will not be eligible for awards.Wave startsWave starts are released approximately 2 weeks out from the event. All competitors will receive their swim cap in their race kit. Please check that your swim cap colour reflects the colour of your wave start.Wave Starts will be made available approximately 2 weeks prior.This information can also be found on your athlete profile Athlete Tracker on the Mooloolaba Triathlon App. Just search Moo Tri in your App Store and download for free.Official Wetsuit RulingA provisional water temperature will be posted on the information boards at transition and at Check-In on Saturday 16 March. Final wetsuit ruling will be announced Sunday morning prior to race start.Gear TentThe Gear Tent will be located at Mooloolaba Esplanade just North of the Surf Lifesaving Club. It will be open from 5:00am - 2:00pm on race day. This facility is provided because bags are not allowed to be stored in the transition area. Please attach your gear bag number label fro your race kit to your bag before checking it into the Gear Tent area. Please not that no responsibility but all care is taken by IRONMAN.All large bike pumps will be stored separately to your bag. Please use the pump label from your race kit to number your pump.Any gear left behind will be taken to IRONMAN office in Noosaville - 1300 761 384.Timing ChipsIf you do forget your timing band, please report to the Transition Help Desk on Sunday morning before the race, as you will need to be reissued with a whole new timing band & race number. You will be required to pay a $150 fee if timing chip is lost. If you withdraw from the race please inform the Information Tent and return your timing band. Timing results will include swim split, cycle split, run split and finish time as well as overall and category places.IndividualsTiming band must be worn on your left ankle (you won't get a time if worn anywhere else).No timing band = no time.TeamsALL three team members must wear the timing band. The swimmer meets the cyclist at the bike and transfers the timing chip to the cyclist. The runner meets the cyclists at the bike position on the rack and transfers the timing chip. No timing band = no time. Timing band MUST be worn you left ankle.Transition – Race MorningThe Individual Transition area will be open from 5:15am - 6:20am on Sunday morning. All individual competitors must be clear of transition by 6:20am.Helmets will be checked Sunday morning on entry to the transition area by Triathlon Australia Officials. Ensure you have your Helmet Sticker (received at Check-in in your kit) on your helmet. Bikes cannot be removed from the compound under any circumstances during this time. The individual transition must be clear before the first wave start.Team transition is open from 5:15am - 11:15am.PresentationsThe Presentation Ceremony will be held at 2.30pm. There will be medals awarded to 1st - 3rd in each individual and team category. Random draw prizes will be presented at the Awards ceremony.MassageSports Massage is offered to all participants of the Mooloolaba Triathlon. The cost is $1 per minute, for a duration of your choice. Massage is offered between the following hours-Friday 15 March- 12pm-6pmSaturday 16 March- 7am-5pmSunday 17 March- 8am-2pmBookings will be made available closer to the event.

ParkingAs transition is located on one of the main parking areas of Mooloolaba, parking close to the event area is limited, so please allow plenty of time. Please be aware all parking regulations will still apply throughout the Festival. Refer to council parking signs for more details.There are three designated all day parking areas available throughout the festival. Please follow the advertised parking signs. Mooloolaba Triathlon staff or volunteers will be directing drivers toward these car parks from Saturday afternoon onwards.All day, paid parking will be available at the Mooloolaba State Primary School, with all proceeds going to the school. We recommend making good use of this service as the school grounds are located in prime walking distance to the race course and middle of all the festival action.Airport Transfers and Event Shuttle Bus Con-x-ion Bus ServiceCon-x-ion bus service provides the most swift and efficient Airport Transfer service between Brisbane and Sunshine Coast Airport and your Sunshine Coast Accommodation:BRISBANE AIRPORT – 17 return scheduled services daily offering door to door transfers, every hour. First service arrives Brisbane Airport at 5am then hourly departures from 6am to 10pm. Does my race kit get mailed to me?No. You will collect you race kit when you Check-In for the event. See Event Schedule under ‘Athletes’ in the menu to view event check-in times. You will need Photo ID to check in.Your race kit will include race briefing, race number, ID wrist band, timing chip, Swim cap, helmet and bike stickers. You will also receive an event bag with your official 2019 Mooloolaba Triathlon gift.Please note: It is only necessary for ONE TEAM MEMBER to Check-In for their team; however they are responsible for passing on the team kit to other team members BEFORE race start.

Join the action of the 2019 Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival by being part our dynamic volunteer team. We have a wide range of volunteer positions to suit all ages and abilities and we encourage everyone to be part of the team. Volunteers support the event in a variety of activities, ranging from helping set up the festival venue to managing water aid stations, marshaling the courses and assisting at the finish line. We greatly appreciate any support that you give and will do our best to ensure that you enjoy your time with us. We fully brief you about the event and support you on the day. The work takes place in a festival-like atmosphere, where you can be a part of the action and watch athletes and entertainers perform. Whether you are coming as an individual volunteer or as part of a group we would like to invite everyone to join the fun!

How can I check if I’m registered?If you received a 2019 Mooloolaba Triathlon confirmation email and payment receipt you are registered. If you do not receive a confirmation email please contact our office on 1300 761 384. Start lists will be published the week prior to the event. I want to change categories. What are my options?All changes to your race entry must be made in writing to mooloolabatri@ironman.com prior to Sunday 10 March 2019. Any changes to your individual or team registration after this date will need to be made at the Help Desk at Check-In. It is important that we ensure that we have the correct details for all the competitors, especially team members. Can I transfer my entry to someone else?Yes. Mooloolaba Triathlon as it is not a sell out event. You are able to transfer your registration to a friend. You must do this prior to Sunday 10 March 2019. You do this through your active registration by nominating the person you wish to transfer the entry to. They will receive a link and once they have redeemed and paid for their registration you will be reimbursed your entry fee minus the $25 transfer fee. Any attempt to transfer your entry or allow another person to participate under my name without the event organisers knowledge may result in total cancellation without refund, insurance being deemed void, and an inability to enter further IRONMAN events.I am injured/ unable to race. What do I do?If you need to cancel your event registration, please contact IRONMAN via email mooloolabatri@ironman.com or phone 1300 761 384. Your refund will be processed within 7 working days onto the credit card you used to register for this event, if your credit card has expired or if your credit card has been cancelled it will take up to 30 days to process.Please note that cancellation fees apply to your registration.50% refund 21 December 201825% refund 1 February 2019If you withdraw on race day prior to the race start, please advise Information on Beach Terrace. If you do withdraw please DO NOT cross the finish line area.What is the minimum age to compete in the Mooloolaba Triathlon?Individual competitors must be a minimum of 15 years old as at 31/12/2018.Team competitors must be a minimum of 14 years old as at 31/12/2018. 14 year olds may only complete 1 relay legDo I need a specific qualifying time to enter the triathlon?Yes, for the Open Categories only. Elite Category requires a Professional Triathlon licence. A start list will be provided to TA for verification prior to event.To be eligible for the Open category you must supply your best three race results and race names in the past 18 months. Men: sub 2:05, Women sub 2:18.No qualification times are required for Age Group or Team Categories. Age as at 31st December 2018.Is drafting allowed?No. Drafting off another bicycle, motor vehicle or motorcycle is forbidden. Experienced draft busters will be on the course and penalty boxes will be in use.Can I use a mountain bike?Yes. Your bike will be visually inspected by Triathlon Queesland Officials. As long as your bike is accepted and passes inspection, you will be eligible to ride.How do I use a number belt?A number belt means that you don't have to use safety pins on your triathlon clothing. You simply attach your number to the race belt and then put the race belt around your waist. If you plan to use a race belt then it will be necessary to ensure the complete race number is displayed. It is compulsory to wear your race number during the cycle leg and run leg.Can I wear a wetsuit?Triathlon Australia wetsuit ruling applies. For all Open Elite and Open categories, wetsuits will be allowed if the water temperature is below 20 degrees Celsius.For all age group categories and teams, wetsuits will be allowed if the water temperature is below 24 degrees Celsius. Please note, it is not a requirement to wear a wetsuit if the water temperature is below 24 degrees Celsius.A provisional wetsuit ruling will be posted at the Check-In and Event Information on the day prior to race day. Final wetsuit ruling will be announced on Sunday morning.Can I race with an MP3, Ipod, or other music device?No. The following items are prohibited from use or carriage on all legs (instant disqualification);Headphones or headsetsGlass containersIpods or similarWhat if I can't stay for presentations?If you are a category place winner and are unable to stay for presentations, you will need to contact the IRONMAN office on mooloolabatri@ironman.com or 1300 761 384 within two weeks of the event to arrange for medal collection.If you are unable to collect your medal from our office we can send it out to you for a surcharge of $10.00. Please note, you will be ineligible for random draw prizes if you are not at presentations.Can I purchase photos of the event?The official event photographer for 2019 is FinisherPix. Photos will be available to purchase from www.finisherpix.com with 24-48 hours after the race.I ask questions more frequently than the next person. I still have some!Technically that's not a question, but it's no problem. YOU must pick up your race kit at Check-In, no one else will be allowed to pick it up for you. Please note that it is illegal for someone else to compete under your name or for you to compete under someone else's name. This is for the safety of yourself and all competitors. We must know who is on the course at all times. Please make sure the right team members/individuals are listed on your entry - this can be changed at the Help Desk at Check-In.Teams Check-In - It is only necessary for one team member to check in for their team. However they must be able to pass on the team kit to the other team members before race start. A team member must rack the team's bike during the racking times on the Saturday. The team member checking in must be registered in our system. Additionally can you please make sure that all team member details are correct. We can change/add competitors details at the help desk at Check-In.Transition - Bike Check-InBike Racking Individuals and Teams is Saturday 16 March 11:00am - 4:30pm.Your bike must display your seat post sticker, and you must be wearing your corresponding ID wrist band found in your Race Kit. If you do not have either of these you will not be allowed into transition.Your bike will be visually inspected by Triathlon Australia officials. This is not a guarantee of safety. Competitors are responsible for their bikes being in safe working order. You should ensure your bike, as well as your helmet, is in safe working order before presenting to transition.Security will be on patrol Saturday night and Sunday morning. Memorise the position of your bike in transition. The end of the racks will be numbered.Transition ToursThe Mooloolaba Triathlon Transition tours are free. These transition tours provide you with detailed information on the flow in transition. This will help you understand what you need to do on race day and how to easily get around transition and back out onto the course.
