Onward Shay Boise Marathon
27 October 2019
In memory of Shay Hirsch, Onward Shay! Boise Marathon comes to life to bring together runners from all over the nation. This Boise-based full and half marathon has draw not only because of the beautiful landscape and weather, flat and fast course, but also because it is a Boston qualifier, attracting 5,000.The race will start at the new Payette Brewing location, near the Pioneer path on River Street and meandering through north end neighborhoods before it spills onto the Boise greenbelt and runs between Park Center and Willow Lane Sports Complex. Onward Shay! Boise Marathon’s mission is to not only honor Shay Hirsch and keep her legacy alive through a fun, inspirational and cause-driven marathon, but also to showcase Shay’s beloved home town city of Boise . Our goal is to create a race that portrays the creative and inspirational attitude that Shay Hirsch shared with everyone throughout her life, even during her years of battling with cancer. In keeping with Shay’s kind and generous spirit, Onward Shay! Boise Marathon (OSBM) will donate all proceeds to the WCA (where she was a director in the 1980s) as well as several other charities. OSBM is a non-profit, 501c3 organization.
The Onward Shay Marathon and Half Marathon will begin and end in beautiful downtown Boise, Idaho alongside the Boise River. The course will follow the greenbelt, a paved foot path that spans miles of connected parks along the beautiful Boise River from one end of the city to the other, passing by Boise State University before weaving in and out of downtown Boise, past the state’s Capitol Building and travel through scenic Boise neighborhoods including historic Harrison Blvd., 13th St., and through other parts of scenic Hyde Park.
Every mile will feature all the talent and diversity and enthusiasm that this beautiful city of Boise has to offer. We are inviting bands, choirs, singers, quartets, ensembles, actors and dancers to perform all along the course. Every visitor attending this race will come away believing that Boise is the warmest, most enthusiastic, caring city they have ever been to.
