Overview

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Race 13.1 Charlotte, NC half marathon and 8k returns to the Queen City in September! The first 3-4 miles of the course will be on tree-lined streets with gently rolling hills through beautiful residential neighborhoods, and the bulk of the flat and fast course will take place on the picturesque Four Mile Creek Greenway and McAlpine Creek Greenway, with the McAlpine Creek providing quite a beautiful view from the trail! The race will start and finish at Toringdon, a class 'A' office park in the heart of Ballantyne, with ample parking and great dining options nearby.

Course details

The race starts and finishes a Toringdon, a large mixed use development in the Ballentyne area of Charlotte. Runners will enjoy the benefits of ample parking steps away from the start and finish line and numerous prime locations for friends and family to spectate.Within less than 100 yards of the start and finish area, runners will find an Earth Fare grocery store along with numerous restaurants and shops, providing lots of great entertainment options after the race.Once they kick off the race there, runners will head east along Endhaven Road past the Endhaven Elementary School, and then turn onto Elm Lane. A long stretch on Elm is followed by a turn onto the Four Mile Creek Greenway, a beautiful tree-lined running and walking trail that runs alongside a creek.Runners will continue on the greenway until it turns into the McAlpine Creek Greenway, which they’ll follow until they exit onto Five Cedars Road, starting a stretch that will proceed through quaint, charming residential areas.The final few miles of the course bring runners back onto the McAlpine Creek Greenway until they exit onto Johnston Road and return to the race finish at Toringdon.

From the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets and the Charlotte Motor Speedway, to the great shopping destinations at Ballantyne Village and Southpark Mall, the state's largest city has a lot to offer for a variety of interests. Runners will have plenty of opportunities for fun before and after the race!

The course will have feature plenty of aid stations, and water and sports drink will be served at the aid stations. We will have two Rent-A-Johns at each aid station on the course.

Awards will be given to male and female overall and age group winners based on chip time. Award for the 8k will be given at 9:00am, and half marathon awards will be presented at 10:00am. Winners must be present to receive their prize; awards will not be mailed out. Age groups are as follows: 19 & under; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-up. Each racer will receive race this tech t-shirt. We will offer both men’s and women’s size shirts. All participants will also receive access to numerous Event Deals. A link to view and claim the Event Deals will be emailed out prior to the race and can be found on the race page. If you choose to register at packet pick-up on race day, we cannot guarantee a race t-shirt. They will be available to race day registrants on a first come, first serve basis while quantities last.
