Ready for an off-road challenge? Welcome to Spartan Trail. No man-made obstacles here. Just you, the great outdoors and the open trail. Compete, have fun, meet new friends and explore America’s wilderness over a 10k and 21k distance.Spartan Trail and mountainous terrain go hand-in-hand. Luckily, for Spartans of the Northeast there’s Mountain Creek -- home to the largest ski mountain in New Jersey. Discover what it means to be a Spartan and meet others as you battle toward one common goal: the finish line.As is par for mountain Trail courses, you’ll be sent up and down -- a lot -- thankfully there’s the reward of a view from the outstanding heights. Come prepared for the unexpected in the weather department… mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable. Spartans always come prepared. If this if your first time on a Spartan course don’t underestimate how long you’ll be out there. Be sure to bring enough to fuel you through the course. Some things are certain: there will be steep hills, there will be rocky terrain, and there will be stunning views from the summit. No one wants to be out of breath by the second mile and that’s why it’s wise to train hard, train well and know how to pace yourself with each and every step.TOP REASONS TO TAKE ON THIS COURSE:1. Vernon Peak has 1,040 feet of vertical, with a base of 440 feet and a summit elevation of 1,480 feet with plenty of room to go up and then back down countless times.2. Treat yourself to some extra time to sleep in by staying onsite at Mountain Creek. The Appalachian and Black Creek Sanctuary are both good options.3. Think compression tights or shorts and breathable tops made from water wicking material. Wear shoes with good traction that you’ve trained in. We have some great trail shoes in our Shop. In addition to your clothes, consider fuel when planning for race day. We strongly suggest wearing a hydration pack and carrying energy gels or Clif bars. Again, train with the same fuel you plan on using during the race. We have all you need to gear up for race day at the Spartan Shop.
SPECTATORS: BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY (YOUR BIGGEST FANS)Bring your friends and family to watch you dominate the finish line and receive your medal! Your fans will enjoy music, raffles, entertainment, and festival challenges. To sign up to volunteer, visit the event page for the race you are interested in. Click on the "Volunteer" section on the right hand side. If the event is less than a month away, you will see various volunteer shifts and times posted. Choose your preferred shift (you must be able to stay the duration of the shift as listed). You will receive final details regarding the shift that you choose the week of the event.If the event is more than a month away, you will see a general interest sign up link. When you sign up under this link, you are pre-registering to volunteer and will receive a communication from the Volunteer Coordinator about 4-6 weeks before the event with instructions on how to choose your specific volunteer shift day and time.We know many of you volunteer to race at the event. Please note that for most events you can expect the follow race options: Build Shift- race either morning or afternoon for either day of the event. Sprint- Race same day you volunteer before or after your volunteer shift or volunteer any day before or following your volunteer shift. Super and Beast- Same day racing is only an option when you volunteer before you race; you may also volunteer the day before or after you race. During registration you will find the race options within the title of the shift and your exact race options will be noted in your Final Confirmation E-mail, sent to you a few days prior to race weekend.
