The Other Half Marathon
13 October 2019
Come join us for the annual The Other Half in October. This race takes you on a scenic run from Dewey Bridge on Hwy. 128 all the way to Sorrel River Ranch. Race swag includes a unique finisher medal, tech shirt, reusable bag, finish line refreshments and a beer garden. Rising red canyons and stunning rock formations provide the backdrop for Moab’s The Other Half, a point-to-point half marathon run each fall in Moab, Utah. Organized for the first time in 2004 as a fall companion to the popular spring Canyonlands Half Marathon, The Other Half has grown into a popular event in its own right, drawing more than 1,100 runners.
The race starts near mile marker 30 on Hwy 128, at the historic Dewey Bridge site on the Colorado River about 30 miles northeast of Moab. The course parallels the river, amid backdrops of gorgeous scenery, including prominent landmarks Fisher Towers, Castle Rock, and the snowcapped La Sal Mountains. The first seven miles roll gently; miles 8-12 contain some short hills and mile 13 is a fast downhill to the lush green finish at Sorrel River Ranch Resort.
The course is run entirely on paved roads and features gorgeous views of the surrounding terrain, including prominent landmarks Fisher Towers, Castle Rock, and the La Sal Mountains. After the race, take a sunset drive through the nearby Arches National Park to experience breathtaking views of the natural sandstone arches and unusual rock formations. A one-mile uphill hike is worth the effort to get an up-close look at one of Utah’s most famous icons, the spectacular Delicate Arch.
Durable, reusable tote bags are provided at the Packet Pickup Expo to all participants for transport of clothing from race start. Tear off the "bag tag" from your bib and attach it to your gear bag with a zip tie (also in your race bag). This will allow the volunteers to identify your bag when you pick it up after the race. Official bag transport vehicles at the start will deliver runners’ bags to the finish for pickup after the race. Bags will be arranged by bib number at the pickup area at the tennis courts at Sorrel River Ranch. Please do not place valuables in your gear bag. Moab Half Marathon is not responsible for lost items.
Aid stations are at miles 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 and have water, Gatorade Endurance Formula and port-a-potties. Clif shots in assorted flavors are available just before the mile 6 aid station. Medical staff is stationed along the course and at the finish line.
An awards ceremony and raffle will begin at 11:15 on the bandstand. Awards will be given for the top 3 overall male and female finishers, the top male and female masters, and the top three male and female finishers in the following age categories: 12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc. in five-year increments to 75+.
The race is timed using a timing strip affixed to the back of the bib. Runners will not need a separate chip. Official results for all finishers are based on gun time. Runners must line up at the start according to the mile pace markers.
There is a time limit of 3 hours and 30 minutes (16 min/mile pace).
All participants must catch a shuttle to the start—there is no parking at the start.
Water, Gatorade Endurance Formula, hot chocolate, coffee, fire barrels and porta-potties are available at the start.
