Overview

Filled with wild, wide-open terrain that’s known for everything from forests, mountains and lush green valleys to plains and deserts, the Texas hill country reaches into metropolitan areas like Austin and San Antonio but also includes protected wildlands like the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, through which the Colorado River still carves its way along the Edwards Plateau. That’s the scenery that awaits runners at the Hill Country Trivium, along a route that starts and finishes in the tiny town of Marbles Falls, Texas, home to just over 6,000 people about an hour outside Austin, about halfway between Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and the Balcones refuge. The race takes place on a paved course involving an out and back course on country roads with rolling hills, challenging climbs and gorgeous views. All races begin and end at the Marble Falls High School’s Mustang Stadium.

Course details

All Participants running the Ultra will start out by completing a lap around the Marble Falls Mustang track. Then runners will head down a small grassy embankment, across a soccer field and out on a very short gravel road connector to a residential neighborhood, then on to Mormon Mill Rd (the old Hwy 281, which connected Marble Falls to Burnet). The course heads north on a four lane road for approximately 1.5 miles through semi-residential areas. The road then narrows to double lane as runners hit the rural sections of the course. From here there are very few homes and lots of ranch land, curvy roads and gentle hills. The Ultra runners turn right on CR 341 at the first main intersection/Intersection Aid Station. This is a steep and hilly section. Runners go approx 2.5 miles to the top of the hill and hit the next aid station.Ultra runners continue PAST the Thirteener Aid Station approx 1.0 miles to the Marathon/Ultra Turnaround Aid Station #1. Here, Ultra runners turnaround and head back towards the Thirteener and Intersection Aid Stations. Ultra runners take a right on CR 340 and head north towards Burnet.  Runners will then go approx 2.4 miles PAST the Marathon Turnaround Aid Station #2, hit the Ultra Turnaround Aid Station, then take CR 340 (south) back to the stadium. Runners finish the course completing a lap around the quarter mile track at Mustang Stadium to cheering spectators, family and friends.
