Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon

Alexandria’s Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon combines the beauty of the scenic George Washington Memorial Parkway, the streets of historic Old Town and the iconic Woodrow Wilson Bridge with a finish festival under the bridge along the Virginia side of the Potomac River.

Runners start the race at the pedestrian path of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and Washington Street and travels five miles down and back on the GW Parkway. A trip up Washington Street through the heart of Old Town ends with a stint to the top of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and back to the Virginia side and down the ramp into the finish festival under the bridge at Jones Point Park. While most of the course is flat – in fact, much of it unfolds at an elevation just above sea level along the Potomac – there are is one hill up to the top of the bridge, but the view of DC’s monuments and the Old Town Alexandria shoreline is worth the sweat and the downhill back almost makes up for the work to the top. Organizers note that half marathon runners are expected to be able to keep at least a 15-minute-per-mile pace for the first 10 miles so they can re-open the GW Parkway in a timely manner. The 6k is a very fast out and back which also ends in the finish festival under the bridge.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon & 6K events offer scenic routes along the George Washington Memorial Parkway and stunning views across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and through the heart of historic Old Town, Alexandria.

Complimentary parking at the US Patent & Trademark Office and a complimentary 2-mile shuttle to the starting area and back to USPTO make this a very fun, convenient and stress-free morning of running.

First off, celebration takes center stage as runners of all ages, sizes and abilities cross the finish line at Bridgeyard Apartments. Then you get to hear our signature band The Darby Brothers. And of course we offer a nice cold microbrew beer for each entrant of drinking age, plus fruit, bagels, Gatorade, and water. We have a large medical tent right at the finish line should you need their services. We will have an awards ceremony for the top runners and we will announce and hand out the age-group awards near our impressive bandstand.

All HALF MARATHON and 6k finishers receive our distinctive, colorful and classy finishers medal with State Farm ribbon. Wear it proudly around your neck as you earned it. If you don’t plan on running the race, please don’t ask us for a finisher’s medal (we’re serious here, we’ve been asked).
